Project: The Bee Garden
For many years, the bees at Hoathly Hill were left to their own devices and did very well by themselves. However one year, they were under attack by mice and someone had to intervene. The impulse was there to create a beautiful garden for the bees and to create more hives so more bees move in.
The vision for the Bee Garden is of a secret garden filled with seasonal colour, perfume, nectar and the sound of contented bees; a place for folk to come and sit in peace. It is tucked away in a corner of the West Paddock, neighbouring the Forest Garden and the CSA vegetable beds and very near Ashurst Field and woodland.
Frieda looks after the garden with the help of children from Hoathly Hill Community and Simon is the guardian of the bees.
